Known locally as the ‘rusty box’

This student residential development is located on West Street, an important retail and leisure destination in Sheffield city centre that is especially popular with students.

The building is seven floors high and provides 71 student bedrooms on the upper floors, with a single commercial unit on the ground floor offering prime frontage onto West Street.

This was an unusual project as the previous developer had gone into administration halfway through the construction programme, leaving an abandoned and half-finished building. Working in partnership with our client, we rescued and integrated what remained on site within a new development strategy.

The completed building incorporates a corten steel facade, extensive glazing and black brickwork. Its distinctive appearance has made it a city landmark and led to it becoming known locally as the ‘rusty box’.
