Construction of an ambitious £18m Sheffield residential development has completed, coinciding with the sale of the scheme’s final apartments left on the market.

Located close to Kelham Island, Great Central is at the junction of Mowbray Street and Chatham Street in the Neepsend area of Sheffield.

Developed by Manchester-based property investment company Knight Knox, it is the firm’s flagship project under its Qualis Developments brand.

Designed by CODA Architects and project managed by Broadfield Project Management, the development comprises 131 apartments across nine storeys, with a mix of apartment types ranging from studios to three-bed apartments.

Other amenities include secure bike storage, a landscaped courtyard and two commercial units.

Richard Dean, managing director of Qualis, said: “Great Central is our first project as a developer and we couldn’t be more proud of how it has been received.

“It’s been a fantastic project to work on and the construction process has been smooth sailing considering the curveball that was thrown our way last year.

“The fact that we were able to deliver the project in a timely manner to such a high standard in these difficult circumstances is a huge testament to how strong the team has been throughout.

“This sell-out project has been incredibly popular with investors, and first-time buyers using the Help to Buy scheme, and we’re certain that the sentiment will be echoed amongst occupants.”

Matt Bowker, director of CODA Architects, said: “Great Central has been a challenging site, mainly because of the unusual shape of the plot and the complexity of the gradient.

“However, working closely with the council’s planners, we’ve created something that we believe will become a landmark in an area of significant future growth.”

Director of Broadfield Project Management, Peter Revell, added: “Despite the unforeseen challenges presented to us throughout the build, our site team and contractors have demonstrated incredible perseverance and commitment to work safely on site throughout the pandemic to deliver Great Central on time.

“We’re extremely proud of Great Central; of the hard work of our project team, and the contribution that the scheme has made to the local economy.

“We’ve sourced a significant amount of trades from within the community, providing employment and skills opportunities to local people – as a Sheffield based company, we’re really pleased to have been able to provide support those on our doorstep, particularly during such challenging times.”

Lettings and management at Great Central is being carried out by Intus Lettings.
